Supporting Pupils with Medical Needs and First Aid Policy
Administering medicines: we will support children who have been prescribed antibiotics that need to be taken four times a day. Antibiotics prescribed three times a day can be taken out of the school day (breakfast, after school and at bedtime).
If medication must be administered at school please bring the medicine (in the original packaging with the Pharmacy label) into the Office with Form Template B or complete in School.
A Written Individual Healthcare Plan is required for any child with a medical condition or illness that requires monitoring, requires long term medication e.g. epipens and inhalers, or a child who has not had childhood immunisations e.g. MMR &/or a tetanus.
Sun cream and vaseline can be brought into school. It must be easy to open/use and clearly labelled with the pupil’s name. Your child must be able to apply themselves (at break time or lunchtime). Suncream cannot be shared.

Absence from school
The Department of Education has amended the Education (Pupil Registration) (England) Regulations 2006. The amendments make clear that Headteachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time. Failure to do so will result in the absence being unauthorised. All children need to be in school during May and June for Government Statutory Assessments (SATs).
Illness: it is important that you us before 9:30am if your child is going to be absent. Absences must be reported on the first day. Some illnesses/infections require that your child is kept away from school for a fixed period of time. We follow the Health Protection Agency (HPA) guidance on infection control in schools and other childcare settings for all illness. A copy of the document, can be viewed at: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/infection-control-in-schools-poster
Children suffering from a gastrointestinal illness (diarrhoea and/or vomiting) MUST be kept off school for 48 hours after the symptoms have stopped to limit the spread of infection.
